چکیده

This paper describes an adaptive brain-body interface (BBI) that was designed to cater for traumatic brain injured personnel to use the computer screen as a means for communicating, recreating and controlling their environment. The paper describes how the initial interface was developed and optimised for this group of personnel. It also deals with the challenges involved in designing an adaptive interface and the adaptive features incorporated in to the interface.

Selecting and Extracting Effective Features of SSVEP-based Brain-Computer Interface

User interfaces are always one of the most important applied and study fields of information technology. The development and expansion of cognitive science studies and functionalization of its tools such as BCI1, as well as popularization of methods such as SSVEP2 to stimulate brain waves, have led to using these techniques every day, especially in appropriate solutions for physically and menta...

On the use of interaction error potentials for adaptive brain computer interfaces

We propose an adaptive classification method for the Brain Computer Interfaces (BCI) which uses Interaction Error Potentials (IErrPs) as a reinforcement signal and adapts the classifier parameters when an error is detected. We analyze the quality of the proposed approach in relation to the misclassification of the IErrPs. In addition we compare static versus adaptive classification performance ...

Adaptive Multiclass Classification for Brain Computer Interfaces

We consider the problem of multiclass adaptive classification for brain-computer interfaces and propose the use of multiclass pooled mean linear discriminant analysis (MPMLDA), a multiclass generalization of the adaptation rule introduced by Vidaurre, Kawanabe, von Bünau, Blankertz, and Müller (2010) for the binary class setting. Using publicly available EEG data sets and tangent space mapping ...

Adaptive Brain Interfaces for Communication and Control

This paper describes our work on a portable non-invasive brain-computer interface (BCI), called Adaptive Brain Interfaces (ABI), that analysis online the user’s spontaneous electroencephalogram (EEG) signals from which a neural classifier recognizes 3 different mental states. The outputs of the classifier are used as mental commands to operate communication and control devices. Although still a...

From Brain Signals to Adaptive Interfaces: Using fNIRS in HCI

Functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) is an emerging noninvasive, lightweight imaging tool which can measure blood oxygenation levels in the brain. In this chapter, we describe the fNIRS device and its potential within the realm of human-computer interaction (HCI). We discuss research that explores the kinds of states that can be measured with fNIRS, and we describe initial research and...
